Mutka
Mutka is named after the Finnish word to curve or bend. The simple, curvilinear chair design was inspired by the Finnish way of life. In Finland, there is no time for small talk or niceties. Life is straight forward. You work hard and enjoy the simplicities. Every action or object has a purpose. There is nothing frivolous or ostentatious. These ideals are the basis of the design of this chair and an homage to Jacob Zikmund’s Finnish heritage.

Mutka’s design is dynamic and simple, and each detail plays an important role in its form and function. The first version of Mutka was created from an old farm building that had stood for 80 years. Now, 10 years later, the latest design was cut by a CNC machine and its steel bushings were specifically designed for the function of connection and rotation of the slats.

It folds up to one curved profile as its pieces seamlessly fit together. And in true Finnish form, the harder the chair works to support its user, the stronger it becomes by absorbing and distributing the weight and flexing under pressure.
Mutka is designed with a quiet elegance and simple form that could be found in Jacob’s grandparents’ Finnish farm house or an upscale coffee shop. Devoid of excess and up to the challenge.
