Island Lake Transformation
Island Lake Transformation
Located on a popular lake in Northern MN, this comprehensive renovation transformed an outdated rambler with a divided floor plan into a modern, open living space with plenty of room to gather and entertain. The owner’s weren’t looking to add on to their home, they were looking to maximize their current footprint.
The middle of the original structure was carved out and the public living spaces were inserted within, creating a linear, open organization perfect for entertaining, yet intimate enough for two people. The kitchen stands as a focal gathering point with all other support spaces radiating from the large island. Non-traditional materials draw your attention and highlight the unique personalities of the client. Soapstone was chosen for the countertops because of its unique properties and concrete-like aesthetic which is then reinforced by a hot-rolled steel backsplash. A bit of whimsy is added by using vibrant primary colors contrasting with the natural Douglas Fir cabinetry and Maple butcher block.
